Reusable gift bags: sizing, weight and when they beat wrapping
Bags win on awkward shapes and on speed. Sizing them is the part people get wrong.

When a bag beats paper
Anything awkwardly shaped, fragile, or that has to be opened and closed repeatedly is easier in a bag. Bags are also dramatically faster when you are packing dozens for an event, which is why they dominate party favours and school runs.
Reading bag dimensions
Bags are quoted height by width by depth, and the depth is the number people skip. A bag that looks right in the first two dimensions will not close over a deep object. Measure the item in all three directions before choosing.
Non-woven versus paper bags
Non-woven fabric bags carry weight without the handles tearing, survive rain, and get reused, which is much of their appeal. Paper bags are cheaper, take print better and fail when wet or overloaded. For anything heavy or anything that leaves the building, non-woven is the safer choice.
Handle strength is the failure point
Handles fail before bags do. Reinforced or stitched handles carry considerably more than glued ones. If the contents are heavy, look at how the handle attaches rather than at the material of the bag itself.
Party favours and quantity
Favour bags are bought in packs of ten to forty and are consumed faster than expected, because a few always get damaged or misfilled. Ordering ten per cent more than the guest count is a sensible margin and costs very little.
Filling a bag so it presents well
Tissue above the contents hides the interior and gives height. Without it a bag reads as half empty regardless of what is inside. This is the single cheapest improvement available to bag presentation.
Reuse as a selling point
A sturdy non-woven bag is genuinely reused, which is the reason many events have moved to them. That reuse is only real if the bag is plain enough or generic enough to carry again, which is worth considering before printing a date on it.
Storage and flat packing
Bags store flat and take almost no room, which makes buying in quantity practical. Keep them dry and out of direct sun; extended UV exposure makes non-woven fabric brittle and it tears at the folds.
Cost per use
Compared per parcel, a bag usually costs more than paper. Compared per hour of packing time on a large run, it usually costs less. Which comparison matters depends on whether your constraint is money or time.
How this applies when you are buying
A roll around 17 inches wide by 33 feet covers roughly eight to twelve medium boxes depending on overlap. Heavier paper wraps more cleanly around corners and hides what is underneath; thin paper tears at the fold. Rolls are shipped in a tube because a crease across a sheet cannot be pressed out.
Wrapping paper by the roll, in kraft, matte and foil finishes, with the width and length stated on every listing.
